Tom Cruise is an American actor, producer, and Scientologist. He’s a three-time Golden Globe Award winner and was nominated for three Academy Awards. Cruise was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York. His mother, Mary, was a schoolteacher, and his father, Thomas, an electrical engineer. He has three siblings, Lee Anne, Marian, and Cass. Cruise attended Glen Ridge High School. He initially wanted to become a professional wrestler and at one point a priest. He eventually moved to New York to pursue acting.

CAREER
Cruise made his movie debut in the 1981 romantic drama film, Endless Love. Other early film appearances include Taps (1981) and The Outsiders (1983). His first starring role was that of “Joel Goodson” in the 1983 romantic comedy, Risky Business. Cruise starred opposite Kelly McGillis in the 1986 action drama, Top Gun. The film was a commercial success which became the highest-grossing film of 1986. He followed up with prominent roles in The Color of Money (1986) with Paul Newman, Rain Man (1988) with Dustin Hoffman, and A Few Good Men (1992) with Jack Nicholson.

Cruise starred as “Ethan Hunt” in the Mission Impossible film series. The first installment of the film was released in 1996, and the latest ‘Rogue Nation’ was released in 2015. A sixth Mission Impossible film is in production with an expected release of 2021. Cruise picked up a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for the film ‘Jerry Maguire (1996)’. Other notable films include Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), War of the Worlds (2005), Jack Reacher (2012), and Edge of Tomorrow (2014).

Since then he’s become an advocate for the Church of Scientology. He also credited the church with curing his dyslexia.
