Her film credits include Hustle and Flow (2005), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), and Hidden Figures (2016). Taraji Penda Henson was born on September 11, 1970, in Washington, D.C. Her parents Boris Henson and Bernice Gordon separated when she was a toddler. She has no siblings. Henson attended Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She completed her BA degree in theater arts from Howard University in 1995.

Henson moved to Los Angeles in 1996 to pursue a career in acting. After countless auditions, she landed her first television role as “Mo’Nique” in the sitcom, Smart Guy (1997-98).
