SZA, real name Solana Imani Rowe, is an American RnB singer and songwriter. She derived her stage name from the supreme alphabet, taking influences from Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. The first letter represents Savior or Sovereign, the second Zig Zag, and the third Allah. She was originally born in St. Louis, Missouri but would later relocate to Maplewood, New Jersey. She was born on November 8, 1990, to a Christian mother and a Muslim father. She identifies herself as an Orthodox Muslim. Both her mother and father were executive personnel at AT&T and CNN respectively. SZA grew up in somewhat of a strict household within an affluent community. With the help of her then-boyfriend, she got introduce to Kendrick Lamar and TDE president Terrence “Punch” Henderson. They would remain in touch and later signed her.
