Nancy Kerrigan is a former American figure skater and Olympic Silver medalist. She retired in 1994 following an attack by associates of her rival Tonya Harding. Kerrigan was born on October 13, 1969, in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Her late father, Daniel, was a welder, and her legally blind mother, Brenda, was a homemaker. She has two brothers, Mark and Michael. Kerrigan attended Stoneham High School followed by Emmanuel College. She graduated with a BA degree in business.

CAREER
Kerrigan developed an interest in figure skating at the age of 6. She won her first championship, The Boston Open, at age 9. Kerrigan received most of her professional training from coaches Evy and Mary Scotvold. She placed 3rd at the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, 2nd in 1992, and 1st in 1993. Kerrigan won a bronze medal at her Olympics debut at the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville. She won silver at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics behind Ukraine’s Oksana Baiul.

Post Olympics, Kerrigan has been featured in shows like Champions on Ice, Halloween on Ice, and Broadway on Ice. Her screen credits include Skating with Celebrities (2006) and Blades of Glory (2007) starring Will Ferrell. Kerrigan is also known for ‘The Nancy Kerrigan Foundation’ which raises funds for the vision impaired. She was inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2004. She was also inducted into the New England Sports Hall of Fame.

Kerrigan is a contestant on season 24 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. She will perform alongside professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev.
