Mark Schwahn is an American screenwriter, director, producer, and occasional actor. He rose to fame as the creator and executive producer of the drama series ‘One Tree Hill’ and ‘The Royals’. His film credits include Whatever It Takes (2000), The Perfect Score (2004), and Coach Carter (2005). Schwahn was born on July 5, 1966, in Pontiac, Illinois. He attended Pontiac Township High School followed by the University of Maryland. He’s also a member of the Writers Guild of America.
CAREER
Schwahn moved to California in the early 1990s. He wrote and directed the independent film 35 Miles from Normal (1997). It premiered at the Florida Film Festival, where it won the Spirit Jury Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Award. His next film project was Whatever It Takes (2000) starring Shane West and James Franco. The film was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Schwahn served as a writer for The Perfect Score (2004) starring Erika Christensen & Chris Evans, and Coach Carter (2005) starring Samuel L. Jackson and Channing Tatum. Both films were distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Schwahn is best known for creating the drama series ‘One Tree Hill’. He served as writer, director, and executive producer. He was also cast as “Max” in two episodes. The show ran on The WB (2003-06) and The CW (2006-12). It ran for a total of 9 seasons. The series won a Teen Choice Award in 2017 for Choice Throwback TV Show. Schwahn co-created the series Spy School for Girls (2010) and served as a writer/executive producer for Nashville (2010) and Shelter (2012). He created the drama series ‘The Royals’ which premiered on E! on March 15, 2015. The show revolves around a fictional British royal family and is set in modern-day London.
