ORIGIN Edit
Kato Kaelin is an American actor and reality television star. He entered the spotlight in the mid-1990s as a witness during the O. J. Simpson murder trial. His film credits include Pauly Shore Is Dead (2003) and B.C. Butcher (2016). He co-hosted the syndicated court show Eye for an Eye (2004-05). In 2019, he was cast as a houseguest on season 2 of CBS’ Celebrity Big Brother.

Brian Gerard Kaelin was born on March 9, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One of six children, he was raised in a Catholic household by parents Al and Izzy. His mom worked as a nurse and his father as a liquor salesman. Kaelin attended Nicolet High School, where he was named prom king. During his tenure, he also showed great promise as a baseball player. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin (Eau Claire) but dropped out shy of a degree.

CAREER
While attending Eau Claire, Kaelin created and hosted his very own talk show ‘Kato and Friends.’ He also gained some experience hosting ‘The Gameshow’ on the school’s TV station. In 1979, the hopeful Kaelin moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in show business. He struggled at first, working odd jobs such as waiting tables and as a production assistant. His early acting credits include the comedy film, Beach Fever (1987), and the horror flick, Night Shadow (1989). In 1992, Kaelin befriended Nicole Brown Simpson (O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife). He was given an opportunity to stay at her guesthouse.

On June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were murdered on the Simpson’s Rockingham estate. O.J. Simpson was arrested and tried on 2 counts of murder. The high-profile criminal trial ran from January 1995 to October 1995. Dubbed a key witness, Kaelin offered his testimony with regards to O.J. Simpson’s whereabouts before and after the murders. However, his testimony was thrown out, with the lead prosecutor declaring him as a hostile witness.

Following the murder trial, Kaelin leveraged his growing popularity and turned it into a successful acting career. In 1995, he made guest appearances on Fox’s MADtv, and on HBO’s Mr. Show with Bob and David. He had small roles in the films The Still Life (2006) with Jason Barry, and National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze 2 (2006) with Charles Shaughnessy. Kaelin was featured on the reality series Celebrity Boot Camp, Sunset Tan, Reality Bites Back, and Gimme My Reality Show. He guest-starred in a February 2009 episode of the web series Star-ving titled “Starving…Literally.”

Kaelin has appeared on the game shows The Weakest Link, and Russian Roulette. He co-hosted multiple episodes of the fictitious court show ‘Eye for an Eye’ from 2004 to 2005. His credits also include Comedy Central’s Tosh.0, FX’s Baskets, and the TV film The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time (2018). He premiered his TV talk show ‘Tailgating with Kato’ in 2011. Kaelin returns to television in January 2019 as a house guest on Celebrity Big Brother.
