Jim Neidhart was an American professional wrestler with more than 25 years in the ring. He competed in the World Wrestling Federation under the stage name The Anvil. His accolades include 2x WWF Tag Team Champion. He was trained at the Hart Dungeon by Canada’s Stu Hart. James Henry Neidhart was born on February 8, 1955, in Tampa, Florida. He attended Newport Harbor High School in Orange County, California. During high school, he excelled in track and field events such as the shot put. He held the school’s shot put record for more than 10 years. Post-graduation, Neidhart experimented with football. He practiced and played preseason games with NFL teams like the Oakland Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys.

CAREER
Following his stint in the NFL, Neidhart moved to Calgary, Canada, to pursue wrestling. He trained under Stu Hart at the legendary Hart Dungeon. Neidhart competed in the Canadian professional league ‘Stampede Wrestling’ from 1978 to 1983. This resulted in 2 Tag Team Championships, one with Hercules Ayala and another with Mr. Hito. His stage name “The Anvil” was born after he dominated an anvil contest at the Calgary Stampede. Neidhart wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Georgia Championship Wrestling. He worked with the Continental Wrestling Association briefly in 1984. Stampede Wrestling was bought out by Vince McMahon in 1984. Both Neidhart and brother-in-law Bret Hart were included in the deal.

Neidhart made his WWF debut in January 1985. He bested New Zealand’s Tony Garea at Madison Square Garden. His pay-per-view debut followed at WrestleMania 2 as a member of The Hart Foundation. The Foundation went on to win the WWF World Tag Team Championships in 1987 and 1990. They had the feud of the Year in 1997 against Stone Cold Steve Austin. Neidhart also competed in the World Championship Wrestling, Eastern Championship Wrestling, and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. His last WWE ring appearance was during a Monday Night Raw anniversary in December 2007. He’s since made multiple appearances on the E! reality series Total Divas (2013-18).
