Geoffrey Owens is an American actor. He starred as “Elvin Tibideaux” on The Cosby Show from 1985 to 1992. His credits include It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, The Paper (1994), and Romeo and Juliet (2014). He founded The Brooklyn Shakespeare Company in 1990. Geoffrey Louis Owens was born on March 18, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. He has two brothers Millard and Chris. His mother, Ethel, worked as a teacher, and his late father, Major Owens, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 2007. Owens attended the High School of Performing Arts followed by Yale University. He graduated cum laude in 1983.

CAREER
Prior to television, Owens appeared in local theater productions. He was inspired to become an actor after landing the title role in ‘Peter Pan’ at Arcata High School. His stage credits now include Richard II, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Pericles, Race, Opus, Timon of Athens, and Mother Courage and Her Children. He has taken on such roles as “Othello”, “Casca”, “Romeo” and “Puck.” Owens made his television debut in 1985 on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He was cast as “Elvin Tibideaux”, the on-screen boyfriend/husband of Sondra Huxtable (portrayed by Sabrina Le Beauf). The Cosby Show ended in April 1992 after 8 seasons.

Owens appeared in two episodes of the FX series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2007-11). He pretended to be football quarterback Donovan McNabb in the episode “The Gang Gets Invincible” and golfer Tiger Woods in the episode “Frank’s Pretty Woman.” Owens served as a mediator on The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2010-11). He made guest appearances on shows like Built to Last, That’s So Raven, Law & Order, Divorce, Lucifer, and The Slap. His film credits include The Paper (1994) with Michael Keaton, Play the Game (2009) with Andy Griffith, and Romeo and Juliet (2014) with Orlando Bloom.
