Elaine Thompson is a Jamaican sprinter and Olympic gold medalist. She was born on June 28, 1992 in Banana Ground, Manchester. She was raised by her grandmother. Thompson attended Manchester High School followed by the University of Technology.

CAREER
Thompson began competing as a sprinter during her high school years. She was ranked 4th in the 100-meter at the Boys and Girls Championships in 2009. Though she struggled initially, Thompson was offered an athletic scholarship to the University of Technology. She managed to improve her sprint with the help of coach Paul Francis and his brother Stephen Francis. Thompson improved her 100-meter sprint from 11.41 seconds in 2013 to and impressive 10.70 seconds in 2016. She also managed to improve her 200-meter time from 23.23 to 22.16 seconds over a two years period.

Thompson won gold for the 4×100 meter relay at the 2013 Central American and Caribbean Championships. She competed and won gold and silver at the 2015 World Championships. Thompson made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. She defeated Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Tori Bowie to win gold in the 100-meter dash. Thompson won her second Olympic gold medal for the women’s 200-meter.
