Darryl Strawberry is a retired Major League Baseball player and 4x World Series champion. He stands 6ft 6in tall and played the right fielder position. Strawberry was born to parents Henry and Ruby on March 12, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. He has four siblings, Michael, Ronnie, Regina and Michelle. Strawberry attended Crenshaw High School where he played baseball for the Cougars. He was a gifted athlete who showed early sign of stardom.
CAREER
Strawberry was selected by the New York Mets with the first overall pick in the 1980 MLB draft. He made his big league with the Mets in 1983 at the age of 21. Strawberry was named National League Rookie of the Year after hitting 26 home runs and totaling 74 RBIs. He was named to his first All-Star game in 1984 and won his first world series in 1986. Strawberry has made a total of 8 All-Star appearances. He led the NL in home runs in 1988 and was honored with the Silver Slugger Award twice.
Strawberry played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1991-93 and for the San Francisco Giants in 1994. He signed on with the New York Yankees from 1995 until his retirement in 1999. He won three world series championships playing for the Yankees.
