Alicia Machado is a Venezuelan-born actress, television show host, businesswoman and former Miss Universe. She was born Yoseph Alicia Machado Fajardo on December 6, 1976 in Maracay, Venezuela. Her father, Arturo, is from Cuba, and her mother, Martha, is Spanish. Machado became a United States citizen in May 2016. She’s an activist and supporter of Hillary Clinton‘s 2016 presidential campaign.

CAREER
Machado began her career as a model and musical theater artist at a young age. She was crowned Miss Venezuela in 1995. Machado succeeded America’s Chelsi Smith as Miss Universe 1996. She was the 4th Venezuelan woman to earn the title. The first runner-up in the pageant was Taryn Mansell of Aruba, and the third place went to Lola Odusoga of Findland. Businessman Donald Trump bought and took ownership of Miss Universe, Inc. in 1996. He criticized Machado for being weight, calling her “an eating machine”. Other labels by Trump include “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping”.

In 1997, Machado made her television debut on the soap opera, Samantha. Her performance won her a 1998 Midia Award for Best New Actress, and a 1999 Premios ACE Award. Machado starred as “Diana Rodriguez” in the 2007 series, El Pantera. She also held prominent roles in the telenovelas, Hasta que el dinero nos separe, and Una familia con suerte. Her film credits include I Love Miami (2005), The History of Juan Diego (2013) and Juan el Mas Amado (2016). Machado was a participant on the shows La Granja (2005), and Mira Quien Baila (2012). She served as a judge on ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ in 2007, and as a mentor and coach in 2014.

Machado’s self titled debut studio album, Alicia Machado, was released in 2004. The album was nominated for a Grammy and a Billboard Award. Another album, Si se Acabara el Mundo, was released in 2010. Machado posed nude for Hugh Hefner‘s Playboy magazine in 2006. She’s also made appearances in such magazines as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Vanity Fair.

Alicia Machado is 5ft 7in tall and has a net worth of $4 million. She has a daughter named Dinorah Valentina Hernandez with Rafael Hernandez Linares. Machado was engaged to pro baseball player Bobby Abreu back in 2005. Abreu broke off the engagement after Machado was filmed cheating while on the reality show, La Granja de los famosos (“The Farm”).
